José García - Ricardo Malerba New Transfers & Remasters 2023
The violinist and pianist José Garcia and his orchestra, known as "Los Zorros Grises," gained prominence in 1943 due to their success in radio and dance events. They started recording pieces from various genres, including tangos like "Fea," the corrido "Mentiroso," the Spanish composition "Verde Luna," and the waltz "Lagarteranas," which brought the ensemble significant fame. Garcia, based in Villa Industriales (Lanús), was also a violinist and pianist. He managed a conservatory and led his group "Los Zorros Grises," renowned for their gray suits and diverse repertoire, to a successful debut on the radio station L.R. 3 Radio Belgrano.
Ricardo Malerba, an influential Argentine bandoneonist, led a distinguished tango orchestra from the late 1930s. His music, characterized by a melodious and danceable style, was especially popular with ballroom dancers. Working closely with his brother, Alfredo Malerba, a pianist and composer, they created a unique sound. The orchestra's collaborations with singer Orlando Medina produced several hit tangos. Notable pieces include "Remembranza," "Llorar por una mujer," and "Gitana rusa." Malerba's contributions significantly shaped tango music, blending traditional rhythms with innovative interpretations. His orchestra's regular performances on Argentine radio, notably on L.R. 3 Radio Belgrano, brought them nationwide fame, cementing their legacy in the tango world.
