The Uruguayan pianist, orchestra leader, and composer Miguel Villasboas (1936-2024) was a passionate guardian of the tango tradition. Born in Montevideo, he discovered his love for music at an early age, with his father as his first teacher. Deeply inspired by Roberto Firpo, Villasboas shaped his musical identity through the evocative and rhythmic essence of the orquesta típica. He remained true to the 2/4 tango compás, which has always been highly valued by dancers. His lively vals and milonga recordings are also widely appreciated.
Beyond his artistic career, Villasboas was a dedicated music educator, teaching history and music for over three decades. His influence extended far beyond Uruguay – he performed across South America, the U.S., Australia, and Japan, bringing the spirit of Río de la Plata tango to international audiences.
This compilation is a tribute to his tireless passion and dedication to a genre that shaped him, ensuring that his music continues to resonate at milongas around the world and among audiophile tango music lovers.
